The umbrella project "Future of FolkArt" spans a Europe-wide network of contemporary artists from various disciplines, cultural institutions and people who deal with cultural heritage and traditional forms of expression in European regions, especially in the European Capitals of Culture.

"Future of FolkArt" is a multi-layered participatory project that invents new forms and formats of celebration and titles adapted to the circumstances of the region. It is based on various research projects in which people with different approaches to folk art and cultural heritage shape what the future could look like. The aim of the project is to make multiple affiliations tangible in a mosaic and to create a new, expanded understanding of "Heimat" in the sense of an open culture of togetherness. The long-term goal is to take the project further within the framework of the Capitals of Culture and/or to create an overarching European network within the framework of Creative Europe.

The project is based on an initiative by Art in Motion & Simon Mayer/Teresa Distelberger in collaboration with the Austrian Folk Song Society. Under this umbrella of the "Future of FolkArt", the first concrete collaboration in exchange with artists from Norway and Estonia will now be created in 2024: the Village Party format, nourished by the existing projects Volxfest in Austria and the Bygdefest in Norway.

The joint event Village Party between Volxfest and Bygdefest aims to create a unique experience of cultural exchange, community activation and celebration. By bringing together artists from Estonia, Austria and Norway, the event will promote collaboration, diversity and the exploration of traditional and contemporary folk art. The event will serve as a platform for personal and collective growth, where participants can celebrate each other's cultural heritage and artistic expressions and learn from each other.
