SOMATIC TRATATA – rhythm, rapture and romance

Tra-ta-ta-ta, ta-ta, ta-ta-ta, ta-ta,... always in 3-beat, 2-beat "breath, voice, movement", these are the three key elements of the piece SOMATIC TRATATA by choreographers and artists Hannah Shakti Bühler and Simon Mayer.

Through the repetitive rhythm inspired by the southern Italian Tarantism tradition, the bodies of the two dancers in the piece dance themselves into a trance-like state. With the help of the self-induced cognitive trance, this state can be initiated and ended at any time. The invisible interpersonal space becomes the playing field. In which the boundaries of body, psyche and mind break open, flow into one another and are explored anew.

Persistent movement, rhythm and breathing put the dancers' bodies into creative states in which something new emerges: individual transformation and self-empowerment that opens up unprecedented forms of coming together. Couple dances from popular cultures serve as a starting point for the two lovers to playfully transform their gender roles and identities, breaking up and redefining archetypes and stereotypes in the process. The audience experiences a contemporary performative ritual, a dance concert that combines traditions: from southern Italian tarantism to Alpine folk cultures.

Everything in play, in battle, in love

of the moving bodies.
